Simpson: Child obesity figures show stark impact of health inequalities

Responding to figures showing a significant proportion of primary one pupils at risk of being overweight or obese, Scottish Labour’s Dr Richard Simpson MSP, said:

Richard Simpson MSP“These figures are concerning particularly as by the age of five, we can see the stark impact of health inequalities on our children.

“We need to ensure that every effort is made to help parents, nurseries and schools provide healthy and balanced diets for children. In addition, the Commonwealth Games next year provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for behaviour change across our different communities.

“Health inequality is perhaps our greatest challenge and ensuring our children get the very best start in life is critical. The figures released today show just how much more work we have to make that ambition a reality.”
